As a newly founded non-profit organization from D\u00fcsseldorf and Madagascar, our goal is to make energy access sustainable for the poorest among us.<\/p>\n

We live in times of floods, droughts, heat waves, and the deforestation of precious forests. We are all experiencing this firsthand. In parts of the world, the effects have long been evident. In many regions, there are no more forests left for use. Without access to electricity, 3 billion people worldwide cook with fossil fuels. Many of these people sacrifice their daily lives searching for remaining wood to burn directly or use as charcoal. 3.8 million of them die each year from the consequences, such as respiratory illnesses. If there is no wood, cooking is not possible. The result: people starve.<\/p>\n

We combat deforestation and hunger locally in developing countries. With our BioPellets, we offer people without access to electricity a sustainable energy source that not only has a positive impact on environmental protection but also improves the quality of life and everyday life in these areas.<\/p>\n

We're starting in Madagascar: 90 percent of the original forest area has disappeared. The forests have transformed into fallow land or grasslands. Together with the local population, the AJPER association, and solar energy, we're turning this grass into pellets.. <\/em>We can strengthen the rural structure by allowing the population to play a significant role in delivering grass to the pelleting plants.<\/p>\n

The pellets are then made available to people across the country. With the help of stoves made from local raw materials, such as clay, the pellets are carbonized during food preparation in an energy-efficient and low-pollutant manner. By carbonizing, we prevent the CO2 previously bound in the plants from being released into the atmosphere.2<\/sub> is completely released. This allows locals to use the charred pellets as fertilizer for the eroded soils, thus closing a nearly autonomous production cycle. Depending on the size of the press, we save between 125 and 2,500 tons of CO annually.2<\/sub> a.<\/p>\n

Through close cooperation with development agencies operating in Madagascar and the AJPER student association at the University of Fianarantsoa, we have already achieved small successes and are hoping for a sustainable breakthrough for this project. A production facility for the cookers has already been set up, and several energy-efficient models have already been distributed among the population. We also have access to a local production site and an overseas container. This container is being prepared at D\u00fcsseldorf University of Applied Sciences so that it can subsequently be used as an energy storage unit and workshop.<\/p>\n
